Richford University Pledges Support for ‘Green Education’
Richford University, on behalf of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), emerges as a strong advocate for Green Education by helping traditional schools and colleges develop effective strategies that will help minimize their harmful effects on the environment
THURSDAY, FEB 13: In an effort to encourage educational institutions, both traditional and virtual, to reduce their carbon footprint on the environment, Richford University has pledged its support for ‘Green Education’, thus becoming one of the first online universities to promote the cause.
Acting on behalf of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Richford University has taken a step forward in its mission to ‘go green’ by introducing a system of education that minimizes the use of paper, thereby putting less strain on the environment. With UNEP acting as a catalyst, advocate, educator and facilitator to promote the wise use and sustainable development of the global environment, Richford University hopes to encourage other leading educational institutions to inculcate the concept of Green Education into their structure, thereby doing their bit to protect the environment.
As a way of showing their support, Richford University has so far conducted numerous seminars and conferences in an attempt to highlight the need for ‘paper-less’ education and the various ways in which schools and colleges can incorporate this initiative into their structures. The idea was to promote the concept of a ‘paper-less classroom’ which would not only help schools save up on paper purchasing expenses but will also result in saving up to 128 trees, thereby reducing the overall emission of carbon dioxide into the environment. Measures towards introducing ‘Green Education’ highlighted included developing state-of-the-art online learning systems for students to not only access relevant course material but also interact with fellow students and faculty members via efficient virtual classrooms; online libraries combined with the facility to download whatever material a student needs along with the freedom to access all of the above with the help of either a handheld device or a computer.
By conducting workshops and seminars that promote the ‘Green Education’ objective, Richford University believes it can drive the much-needed shift in the overall mindset towards the environment and encourage other educational institutions to take the necessary steps to protect their surroundings. “Richford University is the only online university that has come forward to endorse this initiative,” stated a Richford University representative. “By promoting the cause for ‘Green Education’, Richford University hopes to help schools and colleges to become eco-friendly in their approach to quality education.”
